Autumn Unfolds Across Denali National Park
In early fall of 2024, my husband and I spent 24 days backpacking off-trail through Denali National Park from Kantishna to Cantwell. I carried a 22” x 30” piece of cold press paper, folded accordion style. Even with early snow, I was able to document a journey among the autumn fungi and rich colors.

The folded paper became a map of the journey, with the sketches evolving from the bottom (at low elevation north of the range), towards the top as we hiked south to the base of the peaks, and then back north to the bottom. This repeated several times as we traversed west to east.
